Temple Emmanuel – Snow Cancellation Policy

With the advent of winter, we wanted to take this opportunity to refresh our membership of Temple Emmanuel’s snow cancellation policy.

Friday Night Shabbat ServicesWith an impending or ongoing snowstorm and/or severe winter weather event, the Rabbi and the Ritual Comm Chair will make the in-person cancellation decision by 2:00 PM that afternoon.  That service will then be switched to Zoom-based only.  Notification will be made shortly thereafter by the following means:

  1. An urgent “Temple Blast” email advisory
  2. Web page posts on the Temple Emmanuel FB account, as well as posts on other social media platforms
  3. Updated Voice Message on the Temple Office Phone
  4. Local Radio / TV, if feasible

Other Evening Events at the TempleWith an impending or ongoing snowstorm and/or severe winter weather event, the event point-of-contact will make the cancellation decision by 2:00 PM that afternoon, as well as determine if the event can be switched to a Zoom conference call.  Notification will be made shortly thereafter by the same means as the Friday Night Shabbats.

Saturday Morning Shabbat Services: With an impending or ongoing snowstorm and/or severe winter weather event, the Rabbi and the Ritual Comm Chair will make the cancellation decision by 8:00 AM that morning.   That service will then be switched to Zoom-based only.  Notification will be made shortly thereafter by the following means:

  1. An urgent “Temple Blast” email advisory
  2. Direct phone contact of “core service attendees” by the Ritual Chairperson
  3. Web page posts on the Temple Emmanuel FB account, as well as posts on other social media platforms
  4. Updated Voice Message on the Temple Office Phone
  5. Local Radio / TV, if feasible

Other Morning Events at the Temple: With an impending or ongoing snowstorm and/or severe winter weather event, the event point-of-contact will make the cancellation decision by 8:00 AM that morning and determine if the event can be switched to a Zoom conference call.   Notification will be made shortly thereafter by the same means as the Saturday Morning Shabbats.

Decisions regarding operations will be based on factors such as storm severity, whether the driveway has been plowed, the safety of building access, and the status of power outages. Our top priority is the safety and security of all our temple members during events.
