Adult Education: Reconstructionist Practice – What is Judaism as a Civilization in Practice?
November 19, 2025 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Join us for our first continuing education session of the year on November 19 at 7:30 pm. This series invites you to deepen your understanding of how Reconstructionist Judaism and contemporary thought intertwine. Together, we’ll explore Jewish civilization through the Five-Stage theory of Rabbi Mordecai M. Kaplan, embracing the evolving, dynamic spirit at the core of our community.
In our first gathering, we will reflect on the foundations and guiding philosophies that shape our vibrant Jewish identity. Together, we’ll encounter texts from the Kol Haneshamah prayer book series, explore creative musical expressions, and appreciate innovative approaches to ritual and liturgy that bring our traditions to life.
Our second session, on December 10 at 7:30 pm, will focus on how Reconstructionist Judaism thoughtfully engages with the complexities of real life—addressing meaningful topics such as food, sexuality, and the evolving observance of Shabbat, all from an inclusive and progressive perspective.
In our tradition, a daily blessing reminds us, “Thank you for granting me the gift of learning.” May this inspire us all to seek new understanding and grow together in our journey as a community.
Future sessions in 2026 will include a series on exploring of Jewish views of the afterlife. We hope you’ll join us for these meaningful and engaging one-hour learning sessions!
