Hebrew School Registration

Welcome to the 2024/2025 Temple Emmanuel of Wakefield’s new Hebrew School year – the CHAI School. Temple Emmanuel’s CHAI School offers an engaging, stimulating, and energetic classroom environment where children can embrace their Jewish roots, regardless of their level of observance, affiliation, or prior knowledge; we welcome all learners. Our classes are large enough for engaging group activities and sufficiently small to provide excellent individual attention. With the involvement of Temple Emmanuel’s Rabbi Greg Hersh and classes led by experienced Jewish educator Brenda Dolan, we are excited to offer the following classes each week from September 2024 through May 2025:
 
· K – 3nd Grades (ages 5-9) / 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.: Tuesday afternoon for students building upon their foundational Jewish education or just getting started. We will focus on introducing students to basic Jewish prayers, learning the Hebrew language through English and Hebrew songs, and studying the Torah and Jewish Holidays with multi-sensory-themed, creative activities. A mixed-age group tefillah (prayer) session will overlap with the other Tuesday class.

· 4th – 6th Grades (ages 10-12) / 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.: Tuesday afternoon for students who are building upon their foundational Jewish education and are interested in becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. We will offer an innovative curriculum of Hebrew instruction focusing on Torah study and discussion, as well as singing tefillot and other Jewish songs. A mixed-age group tefillah (prayer) session will overlap with the other Tuesday class.

· Advanced Hebrew 3rd – 6th Grades (ages 8-12) / 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.: Tuesday afternoon for students who are building upon their foundational Jewish education and are interested in becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. We will offer an innovative curriculum of Hebrew instruction focusing on Torah study and discussion and, of course, singing tefillot and other Jewish songs. A mixed-age group tefillah (prayer) session will overlap with the other Tuesday class.

 · Bar/Bat Mitzvah Age: Students ages 12-13 are encouraged to attend a second class each week with Rabbi Greg Hersh to focus on Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation, including learning to read from the Torah.

Tuition is $780 for members and $1165 for non-members. We offer a 5% sibling discount per child if you register multiple children. Please note that half the balance is due by the 1st day of school and the remainder is due January 1st, 2025. Request that payment be made by check, payable to Temple Emmanuel CHAI school, and please add the student names on the check.
