Special Congregational Hybrid Meeting
March 10, 2024 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
SPECIAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
SUNDAY MARCH 10 AT 11:00 AM
Bagels and Coffee at 10:30 AM
A much needed major renovation project is being planned for Temple Emmanuel to commence in July, 2024. It involves three main goals: 1) replace the 75-year-old theater sanctuary seating with new free standing chairs, 2) replace the carpeting including the sanctuary, stairwell to the Weitzmann Hall, bookcase hallway, and possibly the flooring in the coatroom and 3) improve Bimah accessibility with the addition of a ramp with railings and a possible ramp to the classroom in back. We would also install a new camera and retractable screen for virtual services. Additionally, if we successfully cover the costs of this project, any excess money raised or pledged would be used to improve the downstairs bathroom to allow it to be more handicapped-friendly.
Per our bylaws, such notice of a special congregational meeting is required when the Board of Directors has voted to approve spending over 15,000 dollars on one specific project. To meet this requirement, the Board of Directors of Temple Emmanuel announces a special hybrid congregational meeting scheduled for Sunday, March 10 2024 at 11:00 AM. The purpose of this special meeting is to discuss the board’s actions, present a visual presentation of what is planned and answer any questions you may have. Subsequently, a 2/3 majority vote is required for approval.
Benefits of the renovation will result in: 1) a more welcoming and comfortable environment to attract new membership, 2) the potential for additional use by external organizations wanting to rent the facility now that movable seating arrangements would be available, 3) Bimah and back room ramps with railings that would make the Temple more accessible for those needing them and 4) the comfort and enjoyment that all of our members and guests deserve.
A decorating committee has been at work selecting chair and carpet options. This transformation is hoped to be completed in time for the High Holidays 2024.
How to pay for all of this? The Fiscal Affairs Committee, along with the Ways and Means Committee, will be embarking on a multi-year Capital Campaign. We anticipate that this Capital Campaign will be well received by the membership and hopefully by the friends of Temple Emmanuel. The goal is to replace the funds required from our reserves to accomplish this renovation during the construction period in a timely manner.
Although the meeting will be hybrid, we encourage you to come in person to best see what the renovation plan entails, answer your questions and enjoy bagels and coffee.
