DESCRIPTION:A Celebration of an\nIrish Jewish Community \nSunday\, March 21 • 11:00 am • 16:00 Irish Time\nZOOM/StreamSpot \nWith filmmaker\, playwright\, klezmer musician\, cultural entrepreneur Ruti Lachs \nRuti Lachs will share stories\, original music\, and clips from her award-winning\nvideo on the history and present of the Cork Jewish Community. As the Irish\npeople throughout their diaspora celebrate St. Patrick’s Day\, we will reflect on\nthe small but vital Jewish presence in Ireland’s second city\, Cork and environs. \nRuti Lachs\nRuti Lachs is a musician\, writer\, and music teacher living in\nCrosshaven in County Cork. She has been researching the Cork\nJewish community over the last 3 years\, and has written a musical\nplay set in Cork city in the early 1900s\, Green Feather Boa.\nIn normal times\, Ruti performs klezmer music with her band\, and\none-woman comedy musical theatre shows\, Sideways on Planet\nPiano and A Different Kettle. \nRuti’s Cork Jewish Culture Virtual Walk video won a National\nHeritage Week Award in Ireland last year. It has been viewed\naround the world\, and as a result she has been contacted by\nmany Jewish Corkonians\, or people with Cork ancestry\, now living\nin the USA\, UK and Israel. \nRuti is planning to lead tours of Jewish Cork when the pandemic\nis over\, and to travel the world meeting her new-found and\nfar-flung Cork Jewish community. She also hopes to get her\nmusical onto the stage in Cork\, Dublin\, London\, and – who knows?\nMaybe Broadway? \nShe is an active member of the small yet active Munster Jewish\nCommunity\, which has members from all over the southern\ncounties of Ireland.
